On 2 October, our Year 2 students set off on their very first class trip, visiting BioFarm Stupava for a day of science, nature and discovery.
From donkeys, ponies and horses to ducks, hens, turkeys, pigs and sheep, students had the opportunity to encounter a wide variety of animals up close. One particularly memorable experience was meeting — and even petting — a wild boar!
The visit was closely connected to the students’ current Science topic, giving them an opportunity to take what they had learned in the classroom and apply it in a real-world setting. As they explored the farm, students observed the animals and their surroundings, recalled concepts discussed in class and completed prepared worksheets based on what they discovered.
Learning alongside their classmates also made the trip a valuable social experience. Students practised cooperation, independence and helping one another as they explored a new environment together.
After lunch, there was time for outdoor play and to enjoy the fresh air and natural surroundings of the farm.
For our Year 2 students, the day brought together science, curiosity and first-hand experience — demonstrating how much more meaningful learning can become when children have the opportunity to see, touch, observe and explore the world for themselves.
